Bali is one
of the finest tourist destinations in South East Asia. It is a
combination of beaches, culture and ancient art. Ubud the cultural
center of Bali is where many people prefer to spend time outside
their beach itinerary
It is at a height
of 600 metres above sea level which keeps the temperature cooler
than other nearby places. The ancient temples of Ubud are a testimony
to the Hindu culture and rulers who ruled this place since centuries.
Ubud is also known for its jewelry making, music, pottery and
paintings. Tourists who visit this place will find ample amenities
to stay in hotels, resorts and villas suitable to various budgets.
Some tourists prefer to stay in Losmen which are small private
lodgings and charge less than hotels. Many tourists prefer Ubud
to other places in Bali because they can stay close to the true
Balinese culture.
Many visitors make
Ubud their base during their stay in Bali. The town is spread
over several square kilometers. Always reminding of a far spread
out village with several sub villages. It is a blend of modern
culture inside of excellent hotels combined with the traditional
Balinese culture all around. Here one can find art and craft communities,
ancient temples, scenic rice fields, palaces and of course the
famous Monkey Forest. Many famous personalities are often sighted
on the Monkey Forest road having a stroll down to the jungle where
monkeys gather in a small jungle between two Ubud villages. Ubuds
central location makes it ideal to visit different mountains,
beaches, and other major towns on the island. The Neka art museum
is another place of main attraction for tourists who visit Bali.
Here one can find some of the best collections of fine art of
Balinese culture. The museum was started in 1982 to foster art
and culture in the region. The Ubud Water Palace and the market
are top attractions within the town. The market is at the intersection
of Raya Ubud road which is the main street of the town and the
Monkey Forrest Road. The Goa Gaja elephant cave is located in
Teges which is at a short distance from the central town.
As the cultural center
of Bali, almost half of the town is covered with workshops and
galleries of local artists who produce fine art creations for
visiting tourists. Though Ubud has become a tourist hub with tourists
teeming from all over the globe to visit this cultural capital
of Bali, one can still find the local population working in the
rice fields nearby. The upmarket hotels and villa resorts in the
town are located in the villages of Campuhan and Kedewatan. Tourists
staying here can get a picturesque view of the Agung River Valley.
